JUST LOOKING

RICHARD BRANSON

THE BOURNE LEGACY (2012)

This movie attempted to expand the bourne universe by adding a new level to what was already a successful formula ,but it more felt like a step back in the wrong direction. The first three movies captivating their audience with spy's who have been trained as perfect assassins. The latest edition took away from the training with a performance enhancing drug that the assassins relied on to heighten their abilities. This addition tried to rely on the story of the earlier movies but wasted a lot of time adding it's own blend into the story which dragged the flow of the movie down. Their were times where you felt you were watching a bourne movie but it did feel fleeting, leaving you want more action. Not camera angles rotating fast around actors to create a false illusion of urgency. The long wounded chase scene just felt to convenient for taking the right transport to escape, which felt to organised during the chaotic chase that went on and on. Ending with the wrong hero saving the day. Watch this movie if you feel you've seen the other three and need to complete the series, but don't expect to get out of it the same satisfaction that you got from the first three movies.

THE WATCH (2013)

Just because a movie has jokes in it, that doesn't make it a comedy. Not even Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill could save this movie from going to the crap on film pile where it stands proud with rest of the movies that started off normal then just snapped. I wasn't sure if the movie new where it was going to end up or if the director figured if they paid Stars good money than the movie will be a hit because of the the big names. Their prowess couldn't get them out of this jam. A movie can not survive with comedy alone, not that the comedy in this movie got you holding your gut from laughter. These stars have been funnier in all their other movies, so remember that before you borrow the watch. The watch was a mismatch of genres that tried so hard to gel but failed miserable. Bad movie sums it up.

A HAUNTED HOUSE (2013)

A mock movie of paranormal activity isn't such an easy task and this movie didn't rise to the challenge. The jokes were predictable and seemed to go on and on. Times where it could of elaborated it fell short and left you guessing what was the point of that scene. The movie was running out of ideas and the only thing that seemed right was to throw in the scenes which probably should of been in the deleted scenes basket. Being a mock comedy horror it seemed to have any easy out that helped blend bad acting and made it seem intentional with a script that complimented the amateur event. If your able to watch the movie in full than your tolerance is better than the average Joe for my rating of this waste of time would be crap on film.

DREDD (2012)

Having seen Judge Dredd I thought, that the Dredd movie was going to follow in it's previous Stallone version footsteps. But the latest Dredd movie did to Judge Dredd what Batman Begins in 2005 did to the Batman franchise. It replaced Schneider funny gags with R rated action. It reflected action without the fear of how would people still enjoy the action if they cant stare at screen with the gore of death shown. It seemed to use use its R rating to the full and not filling up scenes with Rambo style invincibility. The slo-mo drug brought matrix style action to a new heightened level. A must watch for any Action movie, but if your looking for a gimmick then stick to Stallone's version.

THE LEGEND OF TARZAN (2016)

This Tarzan movie stands out from the other movies that came out before it, and not just because the technology has finally caught up with believable imagery, but because it builds up momentum that leads you through to a story that shows Tarzans life after the jungle. Tarzan, now living in London, is called back to the jungle to investigate at a mining encampment and discovers the jungle has changed and become much more dangerous than he has ever known it to be. Action, adventure and drama makes up The legend of Tarzan, so I give it a two thumbs up for a very enjoyable movie.

SIDE EFFECTS (2013)

Side effects may follow the rules that apply when making a thriller. A story that is designed to thrill you by the build up of events, but the Drama and crime propel the story where other thrillers struggle to get. As expected twists in the story keep you guessing and intrigued by your attempt to guess the motives behind the players actions. But the moment you think you've figured out what's happening you realise it's not that simple. It seems that when you've watched the end that you cant believe that you missed some of the subtle signs that the director flashed in front of you explaining how we got to the end. This was a movie that when you thought that it was about to end it surprised you with the icing on the cake. A must see thriller, one that would test any thriller fanatic.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (2013)

The oz and the powerful modernised the story of oz but still managed to keep the true fantasy that we grown to love. It relates to its audience with quick comedy gags that allow you to take in the mesmerising visuals that can distract you from story that is oz. Twists and turns seem to grab hold of you when you think you following the story, it forces you to stop guessing what you think will happen next and forces you to just tune into what's happening now. The visuals complement the story something that would of been impossible in 1939 when the wizard of oz came out and and blew us away. This is a movie that will take you on a journey and won't disappoint if your looking for a little fantasy in your life. Even if your the only one in the world who hasn't seen the wizard of oz, you can still enjoy the movie because the newly introduced movie characters are larger than life even the smallest of ones. So watch it and lose yourself in the land of Oz.

ROAD RAGE

I find the more I drive in certain areas the bigger the chances that I come across idiots who don't think before they react. I use all my restraint not to step out of my car and punch  them in the face for being complete morons. Is it normal to want to teach them the lessons of respect that they should of learned a long time ago?

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER (2013)

Finally a remake that was made well, a movie that takes advantage of our latest technology advances enabling it to incorporate our imagination into the latest adaptation. Creative minds and unlimited imagination are finally on par with each other.  If you can think it, special effects can create it and that is the reason Jack The Giant Slayer is such an enjoyable movie. It brought life and character to the giants, they were as individual and comical as a clumsy barbarian sharing similar mannerism. The camera was brave enough to show close up of the giants without faltering the detail that the movie makers have made to create a photo realistic fantasy world. The more realistic environment, the more your lose yourself in the fantasy. A good fantasy movie needs the viewer to forget that they are watching a movie and feel that they are a part of the fantasy world. The story telling was well paced and easy to follow. The humour was subtle while the adventure lead you through the fun ride surprising you at every turn. Watch this movie and you will enjoy it or if don't you will never know what your missing, its all about the adventure.

MAMA (2013)

Mama is a horror movie restricted by a PG13 rating, which limited its ability to scare its audience it had to strongly rely on its morbid storyline to scare its audience. It had the occasional ghost pop surprise scene which got you holding your seat tight as if to shield from the horror. The horror managed to create suspenseful moments full of tension that would keep you guessing "IS THIS THE TIME THAT THEY WILL DIE". If you opened your mind to the supernatural plane you would also open it enough   to believe in storyline that you wouldn't normally swallow. So allow yourself to escape into the endless minds cape of the horror that doesn't rely on what seems logical, but embraces the noises that go bump in the night . What we think we saw in the shadows is what directors like to make movies of because our imagination is enough to scare us. Proof isn't important especially when it comes to the supernatural. Its what you don't know and cant see that makes you get scared. So go watch it and try to take in the atmosphere created when your the only one seeing the crazy that surrounds us.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE (2013)

Die hard is a franchise that has been successful and different from each other die hard movie, giving you twists and turns that have kept you on the edge of your seat. Cementing your position for the front seat for the next die hard movie. A good day to die tried to raise the bar of action, but fell far short from audiences expectations. It seemed that it didn't have a solid story so it borrowed some of the early scenes from its more successful die hard movies. It did raise the bar for most ridiculous American cliche in one movie. It takes more then explosions and gun shoot out to make a good movie. But this most recent edition to the franchise thought people would be blown away from the wow factor of die hard and Bruce Willis in the title. This was one Bruce Willis movie that made him look older by sharing Bruce's action scenes, and slowing him down. Maybe his son is supposed to take the reins because Bruce is getting to expensive for a franchise that may have died because of this latest edition. So buy the four blu ray bundle of die hard and pretend there isn't a fifth movie.

THE HOST(2013)

The Host showed so much promise during its trailer to be a stand out action, adventure with a little bit of romance flick with a difference.  It only seems to fall short of all it's attempted genre's. It started off like many movies with straight off action, and then a long explanation of how Melanie/ Wanda got in their unfortunate situations. The movie tried to convince its audience that their was a love triangle in the 125 minutes that it ran that would equal the quality romance movies that people have instilled in their mind and later have used movie quotes when communicating with there loved ones. But the word LOVE seemed to be thrown around hoping that it would stick and be enough to feel the audience with a powerful emotion. But all that i felt was the lack of emotion that was coming from the actors who were forced to read the bad script. The advertising tried to use the success of twilight to promote The Host as if it was Stephenie Meyer next great addiction. Hopefully the bad reviews will stop any chance of the next part coming out any time soon because its PG rating stopped it from taking bolder steps in its failed attempt genres. There a movies that promise so little and deliver a whole lot more than The Host, So save your money and watch something with the courage to give an explanation that didn't seem to come out of disney.
