UPSIDE DOWN (2012)

A love story with a difference, that cleverly takes the point literally that men and women seem to be from to different planets. Kirsten Dunst plays Eden who lives on the well off privileged planet falls for Adam played by Jim Sturgess who lives on the poverty stricken planet. Both worlds even though are across from each other are bounded by the laws of gravity which pulls both of soul mates away from each other and in opposite directions. The twinned worlds with entwined gravities makes for an interesting story and spectacular visuals. Being from separated planets is not the only challenge their love has to master but the dangers that are faced with when they decide to ignore the laws that are put in place to separate the interaction between the hierarchy of class between rich and poor. This is one fantasy movie that takes a page out of inception and the matrix handbook, testing our sense of reality with worlds similar to our own but with a hint of difference. The difference that we only see in our imagination that comes alive in our dreams. An entertaining movie for ladies who enjoy drama and romance and a bit of Fantasy for the gents.

COMPULSIONS (2013)

There are some movies that actors and actress should just avoid because playing in them could damage their career. This is one of those movies that the stars couldn't shine bright enough to make you ignore the bad story and pointless scenes which didn't seem to tie together. The only thing that made sense in this movie was to put these successful actors in the mix, because they were the only draw card this movie had to offer. The actors did a great job playing the roles, but their is only so much you could do with such a shitty script. The story of two females  individual obsession coming together didn't make the story interesting. One woman obsessed with cooking the other obsessed with throwing up what ever she eats. Death by chef is what the movie should of focused on, but director chose to focus the majority of the movie on the food and preparation of the food. Boring and shitty don't make for a good ingredients for a successful movie. Bad movie, Bad story very, very badly done.

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives."

DETENTION OF THE DEAD (2012)

Detention of the dead tries to use a lot of movie cliches to make it a hit for a broader audience, but its scary movie antics felt more like a cop out of the previous scary movie series rather than a fresh view of on the comedy horror genre which struggled to get out of the shadows of the successful series. During the full length of the movie their were only few moments that made the detention of the dead stand out. The movie used its ability to make fun of itself as away of making the flaws in the storyline seem intentional which seemed to camouflage the faults which helped you focus on what was happening rather than trying make sense of such a silly plot. Zombie movies may be what is successful at the moment, but if they keep on ruining the genre with rushed out movies that try to ride on the back of other successful movies, than their dies the genre. A disappointment for even the Scary movie series, a must not watch. This review might saved a little viewing punishment, unless your a glutton for punishment then ignore the review and watch at your own risk.

MAN OF STEEL (2013)

Man of steel attempted to break new ground with the superman formula rather than playing it safe and sticking to what people expect would expect when comparing this new addition to the classics that have been done over and over again. It managed to do this by showing you a in-depth view of how it would feel for man of steel to be an outcast with his unique powers. His Parents also played an important role by explaining in detail what would make them send their only son to a distant world, and what it would mean for the people of Krypton. It also showed a little of the world of Krypton and how the evolved planet managed to destroy itself. Showing us a taste of what life was like on Krypton has now opened up the possibility for a prequel. This movie gave us drama that felt new even for such a familiar franchise and threw in an action the destroyed half of metropolis. A good around movie and a must watch for any superhero fan. Two thumbs up for a movement in the right direction.

THE BOONDOCKS SAINTS (1999)

A movie that stands out not just because of the outstanding cast but also because of the infectious storyline of two religious brothers who have decided to go renegade against the crime on the streets. These two Irish brothers fight crime against the corruption that has consumed their town with fast paced action, mixed up with  a little comical flair. Willeem Dafoe plays the FBI agent close enough on their tail that he discovers that their battle to get rid of the evil on the streets permanently might just be a good one. Billy Connolly is the icing on the cake to this movie, his role as the super assassin ties in brilliantly with the Irish brothers goals to do gods work by purifying the streets of the criminal under boss's that are trying to take over. A must watch to anyone who enjoys Action, Crime and Thrillers. A guaranteed two thumbs up for entertainment.

THE HOBBIT (2012)

The hobbit adds even more depth to the already enormous world that was shown in the fantasy world of middle earth which was introduced to us in the trilogy of the lord of the rings. As a prequel to the earlier successful movies the hobbit had to lay a story down that would connect us to the characters that we have grown to love and stay true to the story's elements that make J.R.R Tolkien books a hard to put down because of the immersed story. Peter Jackson as most would expect, done a marvellous job keeping you on edge with the action and intrigued in the storyline. The Fantasy adventure carried you through the imagination of Tolkien and the transformation to the big screen was surreal, which only Peter Jackson could of managed with the attention to detail that helped make this movie a successful thumbs up for entertainment. The beginning of the movie felt that it took a long time to get to the adventure but with the extensive cast that needed to be introduced it is only expected, otherwise the viewers would of felt disconnected to the stars. This was remedied with light humour to mix with the drama that had to explain the plot and space out the action. All in all a great edition to the fantasy series a must watch for Tolkiens fans and those who are fans of adventure.

COME OUT AND PLAY (2012)

Some books might read well and entertain a lot of readers but it doesn't always mean that they would

make successful movies. Come out and play is proof of this, this was shown when what probably would of been a chapter of detail and excitement ended up being a two minute scene full on pointless silence which forced the director to create loops of pointless scenes that didn't really add much to the story telling. A lot of this movie felt as if scenes were being stretched out just to make a full length movie. The 105 minutes that the movie ran for, felt as if the scenes were trying to use delay tactics that seem to only highlighted illogical reactions by the stars rather than lead us to believe that this is how a normal couple would respond under these strange circumstances. A couple who take a trip to a remote island when the woman is seven months pregnant seems a little strange, but a husband who keeps on leaving her to fend for herself when trying to investigate the strange happenings is just stupid. Horrors need to keep you on the edge of your seat with fear not scratching you head with the disappointment of stupidity when it comes to the choices being made. A must not watch with the guarantee of saving yourself 105 minutes of doing anything but watching this mishmash of a movie.

LOVE SICK LOVE (2012)

Love Sick Love is a thriller that will surprise you a few times but loses you with stupidity of circumstance. A thriller must be believable if you are to get stuck in the storyline. A beautiful woman doing all that she can to seduce a man to go away with her to remote country home is not far fetched. When he finds out she has kids waiting their and she has already planned her two month boyfriend to take over as the loving father to her kids is a bit crazy, and then meeting her weird grandparents who seem to be missing a few screws is enough for any man to run as fast as he can. Somehow he manages to get trapped in the web of the man predator and dulls his logic to do stupid after stupid things. This started off okay and seemed to lose its audience with unrealistic scenarios even for a psycho thriller. The story could of played better if it just took its time to cull you into surprising event not slap you in the face with the crazy train. Watch it , just to see how bad it is.
