MOVIE 43 (2013)

The Movie 43 features a star studded cast which tries to transform several short films into a stand alone Hollywood blockbuster, but it falls way short of Blockbuster and just manages to reach mildly entertaining. Only few of the short films could distract you from lack of depth of the whole series of crazy pointless films. The collection of short films that don't necessarily tie in together, don't assist the main story much because each mini film felt as if you were watching separate stupid movies. The very few moments that were interesting felt fleeting, even the star cast couldn't use their prowess to bring life to this corpse of a movie. Definitely belongs in the crap on disc pile. I was surprised to see so many good actors in such a poor movie. This is one case that too many good actors spoils the flick.

THE GUILT TRIP (2012)

A movie where a nagging mother gets invited by her son to go on a work road trip which he has an ulterior motive to reunite his mother with her first love. Barbra Streisand does a remarkable job playing a nagging mother and Seth Rogen does a fine job playing a son that tries to control his frustrations with his mums overpowering influences. Their performances were the only highlights in the movie because a road trip with your nagging mother is more annoying than funny. Guilt Trip was classified as a comedy, but for anyone who has a nagging mother it should of being classified as a horror with true elements. This movie carried comedy limitation because their is a line where you do not want to cross with a movie about a mother and a son on a road trip. The very few funny scenes wouldn't be enough for someone to want to watch this flick, unless your a fan of the stars and have to commit yourself in watching all their movies, then brace yourself for a boring movie.

CLOUD ATLAS (2012)

Many movies have tried to have multiple story's that tie into together, leaving you with one main point made at the end of the movie. Most of those movies can loose their audience because the flow of story jumps from time to time which makes it hard for most to keep up with the plot. Keeping the individual stories as separate movies allows for you not to get distracted of what isn't important and meaningful. What sticks to your mind is what makes this movie good. Cleverly made to give you more than one genuine movie experience and pays off at the end when story's seem to tie together highlighting the deeper meaning. The slow beginning to the initial story culls you in and allows for you to understand the many roles played but once you get your head around the story telling, the pace goes full throttle with captivating action and intriguing mystery. If your looking for something outside the box the Cloud Atlas will tick the right box for you. Watch it but be patient you might have to watch it twice to take in the things you missed the first time.

SECONDS APART(2011)

A movie where two telepathic twins use their unique ability to experiment on their classmates to satisfy their morbid curiosities. The potential was their to create a story that you could lose yourself in the mind of these two twins who look at the world with a strange perspective making them outcasts craving the desire to feel emotions that the average normal person will feel. But the movie wasn't easy to immerse yourself in when the story was bouncing from dream to reality. Too much focus was put on the detective who was investigating the homicides and how his previous misfortunes got him involved in the case, rather than the twins weird persona and how they inherited their unique ability to get people to do whatever they desired, would of been more of an interesting story to tell. Most of the explanation was given in the last twenty minutes of the movie, which was also the most interesting part of the movie. Too bad the director kept the parts in the movie that slowed down the momentum of the story and didn't give more attention to the story telling which would of matched up what most thrillers require to excite with a surprise. Watch it or but you might have to fast forward the boring bits.

END OF WATCH (2012)

End of watch was filmed in a documentary style, to show us a up and close personal view of what life is like for police officers on a day to a day basis. A perspective that puts you in the mindset of an officer who has to always be on guard even when things seem normal. Even though police officers have the law on their side this movie shows us their limitations when coming across a criminal force that doesn't need to play by any rules. A stellar performance by Jake and Michael that highlight the dangerous reality that lurks in the shadows that most people's daily routine doesn't force them to see. The movie felt like roller coaster ride that showed us the ups and downs of the law and the raw emotion that ignites fear because of the dangers we a shielded from . Two thumbs up, a movie that wont disappoint but will remind you to check that your doors are locked.

GET HARD (2015)

Will Ferrel and Kevin Hart both well known funny comedic actors, were still not enough to have you in stitches for most of the movie. The scenes that had you laughing were funny until they dragged out just to fill the required 100 minutes movie quota. Millionaire James Quentin (Ferrel) framed for a crime that was going to see him facing jail time needing the help of Darnell Lewis (hart) to help toughen him up. The trailer was great in highlighting the stand up funny moments of the movie, so save your time and just watch the trailer.

PROWL (2010)

This movie starts of like most horrors where a group of friends who live a normal life decide to leave their small town and go to the big city on a road trip. A road trip which starts off to be a good chance for a close group of friends to go crazy and enjoy life, but changes the moment they leave their small town . Soon they are saved from their broken down vehicle by willing truck driver that claims he can get them where they need to go, feeling safe because of the size of the group and certain precautions they put in place, gives them the courage to continue on their trip. The first part of the movie introduces the characters and  shows us the intimate and close relationship they seem to share which helps you feel the bond that contributes to a believable scene. Once the shit hits the fan, so does the movies plot. The time spent introducing the characters loses its impact because the pace of deaths is that quick that you don't get a chance to mourn one because of the massacre. This movie loses most of its characters within 5 minutes of each other, leaving you with two remaining players and then goes further to add to a ludicrous plot. If you ignore the bad acting that usually comes when you watch a b-grade movie this could of been an okay movie but the middle and end seemed to rush out which stood out because the start of the movie was a little slow. Watch it but it definitely belongs to the crap on film pile.

THE CALL (2013)

Movies that are mainly based on one event can find it difficult to keep the momentum going when the point has already been made. Stretching the story with not needed information doesn't add to a deeper plot but weakens the strength of the storyline. When the majority of a movie is filmed in one location it can sometimes add to a predictable scenario which can easily create boredom because of the stretched out scene that doesn't change, making it hard for any thriller to thrill you. This movie still managed to break free from the monotony at certain points which rivalled many great thrillers. It did lose some ground with the explanation of the killer which didn't really go in much detail of how he became a serial killer except in the last fifteen minutes of the movie. Some unrealistic scenes took away from the legitimacy of the 911 daily happenings. This is still a watchable movie but maybe just for blu-ray night, not the big screen.
