SINISTER (2012)

Sinister's main stand out was it's interesting story which stars Ethan Hawke who plays Ellison Oswalt a writer who's speciality was unresolved gruesome murders, which points towards a serial killer. Ellison Oswalt follows the bread crumbs that seems to show links between the most recent murders and older murders during the 1960s. One of the failings in the movie its inability to show detail on how the killer chose his victims and what he was. The story needs to be explained in depth if it chooses to make profound statements. A lot of time was spent in the house trying to spook the viewers with loud noises and pop up horror antics rather than scaring them with an immersive storyline. This movie had the potential to tie in real murder events with unexplained demonic possessions creating a real scary relationship between what we watch on TV and the world we live in. Watch it if you think the review might be wrong, or just agree on the review with comments below. This movie could of been good but the only good it had was filled in on the trailer, a disappointment to a horror fan.

THE BRASS TEAPOT (2012)

A couples discovery of a money making teapot tests their relationship and how far they would go for money. Secrets uncovered change the couple and challenge their relationship forever. The challenge not to let the root of all evil affect all that is a part of their lives. The brass teapots funny parts weren't enough to make it stand out, because a lot of parts of the movie felt as if they were milking the same jokes rather moving onto something fresh. Quality not quantity would of raised the movies ratings to both thumbs up for entertainment. The movies handicap was it's story was revolved around a magical brass teapot that would reward you with money if you hurt yourself while you were near it. A storyline which its main focus was to entertain you with jokes based around a teapot doesn't allow for much depth when trying to get the audience to laugh, because of its repetitive humour. Just an average movie that has been dragged down because it was too much of the same thing over and over.

VHS 2 (2013)

VHS was one movie that tried to tie several short unrelated movies into its own main storyline. The central storyline was based around two private investigators that break into a house searching for evidence of the where a bouts of a missing student and manage to discover VHS tapes that they believe are clues that will lead them to the student. Most of the movie was based around the short stories that felt disconnected to the rest of the movie, and made you feel that you were watching the main story just as a way to introduce you to the short mini movies. The mini movies only had very few moments that you were slightly entertained but it didn't take long before you started to feel as if  you were watching a handy-cam college made movie that was created with a low budget and made for a special college exam. This movie was so bad that you have to separate the short mini movies from each other just to get some entertainment value out of it. Video highly sucks is what VHS should stand for. Or to the rest of us crap on disc is what it this movie deserves, highly a must avoid will save you some valuable time if you do not watch it.

HUSK (2011)

A try hard horror that pushes the same premise as most typical horrors where a group of friends are going on a trip that is going to be a trip of a lifetime. Consists of one cool jock with hottie girlfriend that one of his mates has a thing for, his closest buddy and the nerdy kid that somehow is part of the inner circle get stranded in the middle of nowhere. A lot of horror movies start this way but if we can ignore the lack of imagination that comes when you have to copy the typical horror story, its hard to ignore that these friends don't really show the chemistry that close friends would have if they spent more then the time this movie took to run its course. As long as when something happens out of the ordinary to them, they could at least respond as someone normally would if something off was happening. The more realistic their reaction the more believable the scene and the more immersive we feel. So if you looking for a bad flick with bad acting and script, then this is the movie for you. Watch or play rate this crap on film with high regard.

THE PURGE (2013)

The Purges main plot is based around the idea that to stop crime rate from escalating out of control, America would shut its emergency services down for 12 hrs during one night a year, to allow for the people to be able to get out their frustrations without the fear of consequence. During that night the law will close its eyes to whatever happens and whatever is illegal is considered legal for that night. The purge reminds us that without our emergency services at hand, we would be afraid to leave our homes. It does a good job in putting the viewer in the centre of what seems dangerous by creating an immersive environment that is similar to our own but without the safety net of the law. Even though the story was easy to take, the stupid things that led to the break down of the system were hard to swallow. Bad decision after bad decision led to unreasonable reactions that seemed to happen just so the story can move forward to the next scene. This stopped the roller coaster ride and forced you to question the reactions that took place. Wondering why someone would do such stupid things when their life is threatened. The movie just didn't manage to get the two thumbs up because of the silly things that had to happen just to enhance the atmosphere, Its just Average.

TEMPTATION CONFESSION OF A MARRIAGE COUNSELOR (2013)

This was one movie that didn't have much of a happy ending, but managed to teach those who wonder if the grass is greener on the other side that they better stay on this side of the fence. Temptation got the better of Judith, a woman who got married to her childhood sweetheart who had eventually got bored with her good man and felt she deserved an extraordinary man and with a matching extraordinary life. She didn't believe that her husband could give her the exciting life she craved so started  looking for it within a young single billionaire that flirted with her giving her the attention that her husband wasn't giving her. Once she fell deep in love with the forbidden fruit of this unpredictable billionaire did things start taking a turn for the worse. She learnt the hard way that her fling just lost her all that she had taken for granted, but it wasn't till she was out of the trench of trouble that she realised what she had. The movies lesson was enough to leave an impression on you, even though their are many similar movies that have had a better execution and managed to keep you interested all the way to the climax. This movie had a lot of interesting moments and a good twist at the end but not enough flow to lead you to clear path of understanding. A good watch but not a great one. It's just Average.

ONE SIDED VIEW

Placing negative judgements on females  purely because of their gender will not only hold back those who are being judged , but also limit societies own potential. A society that doesn't encourage all its people to excel are only putting limitations to their resources and dumbing down society.  A man dominated society will only limit its own perspective on the truths of the world. Men and women views expressed together will bring both sides to the table which will bring choices that are better balanced based on what is best for all the people.

THE CROODS (2013)

Dream Works does it again, another entertaining movie that doesn't just satisfy the child but the child in us all. The evolution of man couldn't of been this funny, The Croods world opens your imagination to an unlimited environment where the surreal is made real with another Dream Works successful movie. It's easy to find yourself a fan of the primitive family who's naive ways are enough to get you laughing at what seems to be aimed for the adult viewers. Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone are just a few of the stars that bring the story to life. The smooth transition between real and made up don't distract from the real story that Dream Works want you to be immersed in. So allow yourself to lose yourself in a world where anything is possible. Watch it and fall in love with a family that could be even more wackier than the Simpsons.

SNITCH (2013)

Snitch is a movie that even though only a small portion of it is inspired by true events, it still is enough to amaze you to see what a father had to do to get his son out of jail. Jason his son who was setup on a drug bust has a chance of spending his next ten years of life in jail unless his father (Dwayne Johnson) makes a deal with the D.E.A and goes undercover to bring in a drug lord. The storytelling does well to show the drama between Father and his estranged son. The rock does an amazing job playing the protective father role who would do anything for his troubled son, even if it means putting his own life on the line. The drama is separated by intense thriller moments where the rock is in over his head in the criminal world. Moments of hopelessness stood out when Dwayne a successful business owner who is always in control was out of his element and not in control. A must watch movie for even those who dont' just watch movies with Dwayne Johnson to see him in action. Two thumbs all the way up.
