TOO NICE, TOO BAD

If you are content with giving more than you'll ever receive, then you have to accept that there is a possibility that the selfish among us will take full advantage of your generosity. This is not the fault of those who take advantage of your kindness, but of those who recognize patterns of bad behaviour and continue down a path that will only ever lead to misfortune. By doing so, they allow themselves to become another predictable target.
Those who have only their own interests in mind have not yet been conditioned by the pushback that comes when their demands are not met. As a result, they will continue to treat you without the respect you would expect, despite the fact that you have done them no wrong. What comes naturally to most people is helping others, but the world is a big place, and there are those who will not blink an eye when harming another person.
The majority of us were raised with the lesson that we should treat others the way we wish to be treated. However, if everyone lived by that principle, there would be peace on Earth every day, which is obviously not the case.
So, if you believe in self-respect but continue to allow people to walk all over you, perhaps you should do your part by conditioning those who depend on your generosity. Show them that treating you with kindness will receive a better response than treating you as though you exist solely to satisfy their needs. You may find that a little tough love can encourage people to become better versions of themselves.
